Construction Begins on New State-of-the-Art Student Housing Complex

NewBrook Partners (NBP), in collaboration with the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), is creating a purpose-built student housing project for CIM and other University Circle-area students, scheduled to open in summer 2020. The new building will be located at 1609 Hazel Drive, just steps from CIM’s main building in University Circle. 

In a creative twist on the typical student housing, the new five-story facility will include 22 acoustically isolated practice rooms on the main floor (rare inside student housing), residence space for first- and second-year CIM undergraduates on two floors and rental units targeted at upperclass and graduate students at CIM and other University Circle-area college students on two floors. NBP will own, manage and lease the building.  

“Blueprint:100, the strategic plan CIM adopted in 2017, recognized and prioritized the need to address CIM’s student housing future in a next-generation way,” explains Paul W. Hogle, CIM’s president and CEO. “This new project is the first purpose-built student housing in CIM’s 100-year history. By collaborating with NewBrook Partners, we are able to both provide an incredible space that will attract the world’s most talented classical music students to Cleveland and serve their needs and create a business model that allows the Institute to remain focused on raising the permanently endowed scholarships required to further lower CIM tuition.” 

When the new student housing complex opens during CIM’s centennial year in 2020, it will boast all the conveniences today’s student expects:
