Academy

The Academy at the Cleveland Institute of Music is a comprehensive program for students who are ready to advance their skills, further their love of music and connect with like-minded peers. The Academy provides a holistic classical music education in a creative and collaborative environment for pre-kindergarten through high school students whose unique talents, perspectives and love for music are nurtured and supported by exceptional instruction within an encouraging community.

Students may pursue studies in violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, guitar, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, piano, organ, voice, music theory and composition. Through private instruction, ensemble experiences and academic coursework, students develop the technical, artistic and collaborative skills needed to grow as musicians and lifelong learners.

Every student who loves music and is eager to work hard at their musical craft can thrive in the Academy. Participation in this highly focused program, centered around Saturday classes, rehearsals, and performances, will set the stage for future success in any field of study.

Wednesday Offerings

Expansion Focus:

The Academy at CIM is Expanding! For the first time since its launch in 2022, students enrolled in the Academy can now choose courses offered on Saturdays and Wednesdays! Courses in the central curricular pillars of Musicianship, Ensemble, and Performance will be offered on both days.

Flexibility Focus:

The Academy at CIM attracts high-level performers of all ages, many of whom need flexibility in scheduling to achieve their dreams and potential. Launch

Designed for students in 11th grade and above, Launch is a specialized Academy pathway for aspiring music majors preparing for college-level study. Students enrolled in Launch receive a highly personalized experience that includes:
A personalized curriculum tailored to each student's unique performance goals, ensuring enrollment in the courses and experiences best suited to their artistic development.
Comprehensive assessments that help identify each student's strengths and areas for growth, resulting in a customized academic and musical development plan aligned with their college audition objectives.
Individual and small-group coaching with Dr. Alex Powell, an experienced conservatory admissions strategist, to establish goals, create timelines, and develop a customized roadmap for success in collegiate music study.

This individualized approach provides students with the guidance, preparation, and support needed to navigate the college admissions process and reach their highest artistic potential.
