The Curious Case of the Dissonant Perfect Unison
Dr. Timothy Cutler, lecturer
In musical analysis, "seeing is believing" can be a hazardous modus operandi. Music's marvelous malleability is demonstrated by examining structures that look identical to the eye yet exhibit dissimilar functions, including an overlooked species of dissonant perfect unison that until recently has lurked in the analytical shadows.
Founded in 2014, the CIM Music Theory Colloquium offers a series of lectures and discussions covering a wide variety of musical topics presented by distinguished scholars as well as CIM’s brightest students. Lectures are free and open to the public.
